Ekene Mark-Duraku is a painter, illustrator and graphic designer born in Brooklyn, NY.
He lives and works in Lebanon, NH.
Ekene's work is about belonging and Black identity. It is about their ego and the complex relationships it has with the frames that comprise it. His works are windows to the singularities of his becoming.
Compressed bodies, towering forms, and severed limbs vie for the surface of the canvas, fighting to realize themselves. Faceless characters tout painted masks and wander in search of their lost identities. Recurring symbols and shapes ground his worlds, acting as guides to truth.
At its marrow, Ekene's work is about the pluralities of being. It is about his lifelong journey of decompartmentalizing diasporic trauma and finding balance among the multitudes of self.
